Recently Candidates for the 2014 / 2015 AIA First Vice President / President Elect were asked to answer a series of questions from the AIA California Council and the AIA Center for Emerging Professionals. Over the next week or two leading up to the National Convention, I’ll publish my answers here in a series called “The Candidate Question Series.” This is the second post in that series. Join Me!

Do Architects See the Future Differently than Other People? It’s the question my daughter asked me as I was preparing for my first speech as Candidate for First Vice President / President Elect of the American Institute of Architects. The speech that was the next step in my mission to answer a challenge from my mentor that started with AIAS and has led me to the post of Vice President of the American Institute of Architects. Now, like my mentor challenged me, I’m challenging you. Join me. This is OUR time. Join me in making OUR Institute stronger, OUR Profession more relevant and OUR world a better place. Continue reading

Results!

By now you know that the AIA makes a big deal about our Grassroots Leadership and Legislation Conference, and I’m no exception. It is a time for us to Lead, to Be Bold and to affect Change. Well, allow me to quote a message from AIA Government and Community Relations Vice President Paul Mendelsohn. “As a member of AIA’s leadership, I wanted you to know about an exciting legislative victory that occurred today on Capitol Hill.” Continue reading

Lead and be Bold!

As leaders, we invent the future, give credit, do the right things, develop new ideas, and most importantly we focus on and inspire the people we depend on. We know attitudes make a huge difference. Continue reading

Grassroots

Certainly a campaign for the national Vice Presidency of the American Institute of Architects pales, by far, in comparison and importance to the race for Leader of the Free World. But this trip to Washington DC for the 2011 Grassroots Leadership and Legislation Conference seems completely appropriate. Continue reading
