AIA National Convention 2011 Candidate Speech
Deb Kunce, FAIA
Throughout my candidacy, I have discovered many BOLD ideas through you…our AIA leadership. I learned about AIA New York’s healthy city initiative, Fit Nation, and it was exciting to discover that AIA Tampa Bay and AIA Orlando teamed up to advocate for a high speed rail project, including a You-tube video. Did you know that AIA San Francisco’s 2030 Zero Net Energy series inspired the net zero programming at AIA Colorado.
These successes and many more are the foundation for our BOLD future. Our components and members recognize the immense challenges ahead of us — transportation, health, land-use, energy and sustainability – and all are fundamentally issues of Design. AIA must stand ready to accept the challenge and lead through our knowledge, our advocacy, collaboration, and most importantly our BOLD actions.
I believe our members are best served when AIA maintains a public spotlight on these and other practice-related issues. They are also best served when we reach out BOLDLY across our own Institute to share ideas, facilitate collaboration, and increase efficiencies.
I recognize we are challenged as we serve a multi-generational profession. Let’s face it, architects are working longer, and emerging professionals are not seeking registration. We must work diligently to address these challenges and define the Architect’s position in the NEW economy. I believe it is our TIME to promote the value of the Architect.
Design is the new currency and the unique skills of the Architect are more relevant than ever because we are THE integrator of issues, people, and technologies.
Through all levels of component leadership, I have supported emerging professionals, increased communications. I have advanced legislation and furthered the AIA brand. I am an energetic and accessible AIA leader willing to act, and through BOLD actions, I will
- create a culture of collaboration
- advance our strategic goals, and
- promote the value of the Architect.
I believe this is OUR TIME to design OUR FUTURE. My name is Deb Kunce, FAIA, and I ask for your VOTE.
